Your Plan

Poplars Surgery – 20/11/2023

Location: Poplars Surgery

Completed by: Danielle Grant

Describe your premises

We are a drs surgery, located in the heart of Birmingham. We service 7000 patients in North Birmingham, we have 10 GP, 5 nursing staff, and 6 admin staff.

What type of terrorist attack is likely to occur at the premises?

From the vulnerability assessment we are at risk in the mornings when people can queue for the surgery to open, and to get an appointment. We are also vulnerable as we have deliveries throughout the day for the pharmacy which are not checked.

Have you identified relevant workers who must receive terrorism protection training and ensured it is provided to them?

None of our staff have had terrorism training. I will ensure the practice manager completes this for all staff.

Who will put the plan into action in the event of an incident? How is the plan and relevant information being communicated to workers at the premises?

The practice manager is in charge and will make decions, in her absence it will fall to the on duty doctor for the day

Task 1 – Plan to warn people on the premises than an attack is taking place

We have a tannoy system which we could use to communicate to people on the premises. This is located in reception. I will write a form of words to be used. Everyone could hear the tannoy

Task 2 – Plan to lockdown your premises

We have a main entrance which is opposite the reception desk - we would lock the doors if something happened outside. We have offices where the doctors work and could lock these from inside and also toilets which could shelter people. We havent ever practised a lock down but will do in future.

Task 3 – Plan to evacuate the premises

We have a fire exit which gives access to the front car park - there isnt another entrance or exit.

Task 4 - Plan to call the emergency services and relay the necessary information

We would call 999 to phone the police - i have spoken to the reception team and told them what to say if an incident happened.

Task 5 – Use available first aid and fire safety equipment

As a drs surgery we have full access to first aid should it be needed. All staff have emergency first aid training.

Task 6 – Consider how you tell your neighbours or local network aware of your plan and alert them in an attack

We are in a residential area but have a school near by so i have contacted the head to discuss if an emergency happened how we would communicate
